Venice

March 14:
Though Venice is a beautiful city it is small and as such doesn’t have a lot to do whilst there. It was with this in mind that we decided to just take a day trip to Venice.

Once we checked out of our hostel we hung around for a bit, this was primarily because we hadn’t booked our next night in a hostel yet and partially because the way we had organized it it would be a very long day in Venice no matter what time we left. Our plan for the day was to take a train to Venice, spend a day walking around there then hop on the 9pm night train to Vienna. Hotel checkout was at 10 but we stayed around till about noon before catching the two and a half hour train to Venice.

We got in at 3pm and immediately booked our night train to Vienna. That all taken care of we set out to see Venice. It’s a very pretty city and is interesting to just walk around in the mess of streets. We went to the famous square, Piazza San Marco, but focused most of our time on just seeing the streets.

After a few hours of walking around we were pretty tired and went for a nice long dinner. We read at dinner and I am getting through Hitch-22 fairly quickly, I had best slow down or figure out what I will read next. After dinner we made our way back to the train station, with just a little difficulty as the winding streets and canals make it difficult to get anywhere in Venice. Bags recovered form storage we went to grab some snacks for the train before boarding. On the train we had a six-person cabin like thing to ourselves and used it to lay down across the seats for the night. Next morning: Vienna.
