March 25:
We all arose a bit earlier than we had previously and after
just a bit of dawdling got packed and ready to go. We had left Pat with the
charge of finding us a place to stay the previous night and he had chosen the
Grand Hostel in Berlin. The Mad House had been our little Canadian paradise in
the middle of Europe. We had been recommended it by a Canadian in Budapest and
in addition to its Canadian owners most of the staff and guests happened to be
Canadian. The Canadian population was great and contributed to a really
friendly, enjoyable environment. But enough of that, it was time for us to
leave. We got sandwiches and headed to Tesco to spend our final crowns on
snacks for the train. We got a train without issue and didn’t even need to get
a reserved seat. Since I had finished up Hitch-22 on my way to Prague I started
The Blind Assassin, a Margret Atwood novel gifted to us in Rome. It was good
but I quickly found myself napping, as trains almost always seem to make me do.
When I awoke I got on my computer to write up the past few days before heading back
to my book for the duration of the train ride. Once we checked in we rested and
got on the internet before going to get some food. We had heard that a place
was near us in a restaurant district had the best kebabs in town so we went in
search of it. They were very good with a lot of vegetables, three sauces and goat
cheese. Once we ate we watched Inglorious Bastards and called it a night.
Hey, Brook. Love the blog. Jealous as hell.
