March 15:
I was awoken around 7am this morning by a rapid stop of my
train and was shocked to see the rolling snow covered hills of Austria.
One must cut me at least a bit of slack for I haven’t seen more then the minutest quantity of standing snow since I left Canada around a month and a half ago. My snow shock aside the countryside was pretty. Upon inquiry Pat had barely slept a wink that night which put my hours of light and restless sleep to shame. Once in Vienna it was a short but comparably frigid walk to the hostel. We were told that because of a missed booking on someone else’s part our beds were already ready for us. Our train got in at 8:08am and our hostel wasn’t far from the station but I soon woke up around noon. We were lodged at the Wombat Hostel (The Base, as they seem to have three in the city) and their ground floor wifi did not extend anywhere near our seventh floor room so upon my awakening I headed downstairs to check emails, bbm my safety to my mother, and load the tv shows I was behind on. Those completed I went back upstairs a bit worried that Pat would awake with me having vanished on him. After my retreat to bed and watching all my shows I thought it about time to get some food. Pat awoke as I was leaving again so I didn’t feel guilty about leaving him alone in the room again. I enquired as to the local food places and found that all the places on the local main street would be good and also got the name of a good supermarket.
After getting a cheap schnitzel sandwich from a kebab shop I hit up the grocery store for some snacks and drinks. In short the beer is inexpensive (there have got to be at least 10 types of beer here that are under a euro for a tall boy) and the snacks are all either chocolate or spicy (seriously everything has chilies added here chip-wise). Snacks acquired I headed back to the room where we essentially chilled in various states of comatose with a small intermissions for us to go grab some dinner and for me to post this. As titled it was a lazy day in Vienna but hopefully I will be awake for the 10am walking tour tomorrow and we will start exploring this city.
