March 31:
Today our only plan was to take the night train to Munich at
9:30pm. We checked out promptly at 10am and had all day to ourselves in a
mostly shut down Easter Sunday in Hamburg. At first we were only interested in
finding a café as we were both exhausted because in addition to a group of
three girls that came home loud and drunk to our room in the wee hours of the
morning European day light savings had came into effect the previous night
giving us an hours less sleep, a fact we only caught on to at the café. We
spent a couple hours at the café with Pat reading and myself, not wanting to
carry my daypack with me all day, contented to play solitaire on my phone.
After a few hours lazing in the warm café window we decided to get a move on
with our day and headed out. We decided to walk down by the harbor, an area we
hadn’t seen yet. It was pretty nice.
On our way back we were both getting hungry from having, of yet, failed to eat that day and after some searching for a place stopped into a Subway. After our meal we headed back to the hostel to spend a few hours on the hostel internet, charging our electronics before the night train. When we booked the tickets for the night train the day before they told us there were no seating reservations available so we booked into a six-person sleeper car. Upon leaving the hostel we headed to the train station and picked up some dinner and drinks for the train ride. Once our train arrived we boarded with little difficulty and found our beds. Seemed we would have our own room to ourselves for the night.
