April 4:
I woke around 8:30am and got up to close the blinds. After
that I hopped on my computer before trying to head back to sleep. Though
insignificant at the time, I later found out that Pat had woken up from his nap
in the middle of the night and would not be able to get back to sleep till after
I had closed the blinds. For my part I was unable to sleep after I had woken up
and spent a few hours on my computer before Pat woke up around the noon hour. Our
plan for that day was to see the Dachau concentration camp so once we got ready
for the day we headed to the train station to get sausages and headed on our
way.
The camp was interesting, They had some of the buildings
still intact from when it was a concentration camp and had memorial plaques all
over as well as a museum giving a detailed history of the events surrounding
the war and the concentration camp. Words don’t really describe being
at a place where, for 12 years, humans systematically lost their humanity through
persecution or power. It is truly horrible but I am glad I went.
We stayed till close then headed back home. We picked up
food along the way and watched tv and drank our remaining wine as we ate. After
watching a bunch more tv we remembered that we still had two free shots at the
hostel bar. At the bar we had a few drinks and met up with some cool Canadians,
Americans and a Brazilian. When most of them went to the clubs we decided
against it and instead grabbed some food. As we ate we decided to walk down to Theresienwiese,
the large park in central Munich that is the staging grounds for Oktoberfest. After
chilling and walking its length we headed back to the hostel.
