Rijksmuseum, Beer and looming travel

We both got up a bit early this morning, if just by our standards. And managed to stay in bed till near enough the usual hour without much difficulty.

It was a lovely day out so we went out to get some coffee cake and walked to the Rijksmuseum, stopping for breakfast along the way.

The Rijksmuseum was really cool, despite being renovated currently; it still had many amazing works on display.

After we had toured the Rijksmuseum we went back to the hostel to chill. The hostel is attached to a bar/lounge. This is a good place to relax and the food is 25% off if you’re staying at the hostel, which is good cause they have great burgers. They also have great beer. For the duration of my travels so far I have been drinking the cheapish local beer but today I opted for the Leffe. Leffe is a Belgian wheat beer and, in retrospect, I think I have tasted it before. Regardless it reminded me that there are really good beers over here and I should be exploring them more. After chilling in our room for a bit it was dinnertime and this time I tried some Hoegaarden. I have only ever tried Hoegaarden once before, in first year, and at the time thought it was terrible. The swill nearly made me sick. Now, a bit older and with a much better grasp of beer it was good, if not as good as the Leffe. We had the delicious hostel burgers and headed to our room for the night. We started looking at some rail maps this evening to see where we want to go and how. The main options seem to be staying up north and training to various places or following the sun and heading south (likely via plane.) But these are questions for tomorrow.

  1. You mentioned heading back to "our room", what have your rooms been like? Do you and Pat usually have your own room(s), or a big room with approximately how many other people?

  2. We have been in the same room since booking together. Our rooms have been 6-8 person mixed dorms. THere are private rooms at some places but that is the pricier option.

  3. Have you had problems with people being loud or snoring or coming in late?

  4. Um, not really. Our current room is first floor and has a window to the street so it can get loud at times but ear plugs then to work well
