Yesterday we got up early cause we had to change hostels.
The plan was to get up at 8:30 and meet by nine but I arose at seven,
unintentionally, and had a nice time slowly packing up and getting ready for
the day. I was down in the lobby messing about on my computer before my alarm
went off. Pat joined me at the appointed time and after breakfast we still had
an hour to go till check out and an hours and a half till we were due at next
hostel. We decided to use the excess time to relax in the common room. After
about an hour we collected our stuff from our rooms and proceeded to our next
hostel. When we checked in there and got to our room, there were some
Australians who had been using the room for the previous few nights. We chatted
for a while as we settled into the room but soon I was off on a two hour nap.
When I awoke we decided to walk around and explore the city some more, with the
secondary goals of finding an ATM and some food. After a while we had found and
used an ATM but had not found a place that looked inviting for food so we
decided to head back to Wok to Walk. It was still amazing and we will likely be
there again soon. After that we dropped by the hostel and after a while decided
to venture out in search of a liquor store and supermarket, for absinthe and
snacks respectively. Mission accomplished we got back to the hostel and sampled
our loot. In short nougat is really good and absinthe is really bad. After we
had adequately sampled each, we decided to go walk around the red light
district. That was a surprising amount of fun, scantly clad women in the windows
trying to entice you is a pretty funny experience. Once we got bored of the
spectacle we decided to get food and ended up at another Burger Bar. After a
bit more wandering we called it a night.
February 1st, we got a good night sleep last
night and awoke this morning to the problem of not having a hostel past tonight
once again. We decided that we would battle against our hostel’s crappy
internet and get rid of this problem for the future of our stay in Amsterdam.
The biggest problem in solving this, internet not included, was that Amsterdam
get super packed on weekends causing prices to rise and availability to
plummet. Additionally most hostels, or at least the available ones, required a
minimum of two night stay at the hostel over the weekend. After much research and deliberation we decide on the
Bulldog for the night’s of the February second and February third. It was a bit
pricey, even all things considered, but it is bound to be a fun time. We looked
for a less expensive yet still fun place to crash for next week and decided on St
Christopher's at The Winston. We booked in there till the morning of the Eighth
at which point we will likely be leaving this great city.
"In short nougat is really good and absinthe is really bad."
ReplyDeleteLOL I couldve told you that!!
When Jen and I went to San Fran we made a vow to never eat at the same place twice (as a way of forcing ourselves to try new things and be adventurous). Do the same, no more burgers for you!! :p ...although I should admit we failed miserably at this goal, and ended up at McDonald's several times. Oops.
Ewwwwww, though we have been to McDonalds once... and KFC lol. K but we went to a Thai place last night, if I ever get my thoughts together for a blog post
