Eiffel Tower

Today we planned on seeing the Eiffel tower since it was supposed to be nice and sunny. We planned to get up at 9:30 to get some free breakfast before heading out. I was up at 8:30 though so I did emails and blogging stuff until my alarm went off. Breakfast was some knockoff Nutella, baguette bread, and apple juice. All the tables were in use when we got there but I noticed Edward, an Australian from our room and headed over to sit with him. He had to go pretty soon but we struck up a conversation with a girl Laura who was at our table. Pat and I discussed how dreary the overcast sky was and how we wouldn’t want to go to the Eiffel tower in such weather. We batted around going to the catacombs since Pat had showed interest in it previously. Laura said she planed to go to the catacombs today and all just like that we had a plan. After we collected our stuff for the day from our rooms, the three of us we set off for the catacombs. After some issues with the trains we finally made it to the catacombs. They were really cool though I wish they had more things translated to English. They have over six million bodies down there in stacks of bones.

After we finished there we headed out and ended up hopping in a McDonalds for wifi and I grabbed a Royale with cheese. The others, who were able to avoid movie inspired food purchases decided to head to a place called L’Académie de la Bière which Laura had heard had a good beer selection.

Its selection was impressive and after a drink and some food we headed out. Laura had to leave us because she was flying to Madrid later in the day and needed to get her bag from the hostel but by then it was sunny if not very warm so we headed to the Eiffel tower. We climbed to the second level and were faced with the decision of paying for en elevator ticket up to the top and all the waiting in line involved with that choice or heading back down. We thought it wasn’t worth the wait so we headed down.

Pat has been starving for a book to read of late since I acquired his last one. So we decided to walk over to near the Louvre where Pat had on good authority that there was the largest English language bookstore in Paris. Pat got A Short History of Nearly Everything and a large compilation of Hitchens essays. Now exhausted from our days travels we decided to head back for the hostel to get some dinner and unwind.
