Update on the Last Few Days

Hostels all booked we began our day. Around 3pm. We began by wandering around a bit and ended up at the Grey Area again. After hanging out there we decided to find our next hostel and some food. Those goals achieved we went back to our hostel to relax and have a few drinks. There was a girl there who could stand absinth so she drank with us too. Later Pat and I went to a bar around the corner where we were able to relax. We were told the Super Bowl might be on but of course it was Friday… After a few drinks we headed home to the hostel for the night.

The next morning we woke up earlyish to check out on time. Everywhere in Amsterdam seems to have checkout at 10:30. It was a nice day out though, and we were soon at our next hostel. The Bulldog doesn’t let you check-in till one or two in the afternoon so once we got there and paid we stowed our bags and headed out for the Hermitage, where the Van Gough Museum is housing seventy odd paintings while the museum is being renovated. It was really cool, Vincent was a master and there were a tonne of amazing paintings on display with some basic biographical information. After wandering our way there and back, enjoying the sun, it was close to two by the time we checked into the hostel. I was tired from the walking and napped for a bit as Pat chilled on his computer. Once I regained myself we went downstairs to the bar to relax and find out about a good place to eat nearby. A security guard's poor map annotations eventually got us to a Thai restaurant called The Bird. It was a bit pricey but gave us big portions of Pad Thai so we were happy. Full we chilled at the hostel bar for a bit before heading back to our room.

Eventually I got bored of hanging out in my room. This was largely because I hadn’t realized yet that I had to mess around with my computer’s DNS settings to use the internet at the Bulldog. After hearing about a pub crawl some of my roommates were going on I decided that wasn’t necessarily the thing for me but instead I would go down to the bar for a drink and see if I could meet anyone fun. Right off I met these 6 really cool British guys and after our drinks we went out for some more drinks and to check out the local attractions. We all had a great time, even if Johnnie got a bit to drunk. Best time I’ve had so far.

So far today Pat and I got up late. After a quick trip to the commons downstairs we went out and wandered around till we found a breakfast place. It was rainy out, and has been about the worst day weather wise since we got here but we persisted.
We were going to check out the blue bird coffee shop but there was an issue. I had safely secured my personal items when coming home the previous night; and as such had only the general idea as to where they were. I did remember having thrown them somewhere in my big bag upon returning to the hostel. With my id safely hidden the coffee shop was a no go. After another trip to the Bulldog common area we headed up to our room, I figured out the internet issue and wrote this blog post.

Question to the reader: Do you like me posting with big posts of everything I have done since my last post or would you prefer if I kept individual posts to recount the individual possible multiplicity days since my last post. I think It may streamline reading because a post will be a standard unit of time if not necessarily the time between post.

Please comment to tell me your preference :)

  1. I don't care either way, whatever is easiest for you. You may find it hard to write down what you do everyday.

  2. It would be nice if you could do your posts every day, but you might not be able to either because of time constraints or access to the internet. Either is fine for me, I just enjoy reading your posts.

  3. Shorter more frequent postings would be preferred! It's tragic to come on here and have there be no new postings... Lollll but obviously you're busy living life so whatever works for you!

  4. Daily posts are easier to follow, but maybe harder to write. Enjoying the blog though :)
