Today started slowly. Pat and I were both a bit under the
weather from adventures in wine and my late in the game decision to finish the
remaining absinthe that had been haunting me and taking up precious room in my
bag. I woke up early despite this and was unable to get back to sleep. After a
quick trip downstairs to grab some bread to ease my ailing stomach I was
quickly back up in bed and on my computer. We did this until one or two before
we decided we should get on with our day. Paris was crappy out; it was one
degree and raining pretty hard. We had decided that it would be nice to see the
Pantheon so we took the metro to that area to grab food. We grabbed our late
lunch in a café and chilled there reading and writing for a while after we were
done because we were still feeling a bit off and were pretty content to just
hang out. After a while we decided to settle up and head back out into the
misery of the day. After some considerable struggle finding our way we finally
reached the Pantheon.
It’s huge and gorgeous and gave us the opportunity to see the final resting places of such famous people as Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Marie Curie.
When we left the Pantheon it was suddenly much warmer out and we were even graced with some late afternoon sun. We had thought to visit Orsay, since it is open late Thursdays but neither of us were particularly interested in going given our current state. We decided to wander to find a metro stop. We found one but not before we went to a super market to grab supplies. We got some wine for the evening and I grabbed a bottle of Four Roses bourbon. We metro-ed our way back to the hostel but before stopping in we decided to go to another supermarket to grab some food. We got sandwiches and bugles and some juice and headed back to our room. I was pretty tired at this point and didn’t know what I would do later that night but new I needed a rest if I was going to enjoy myself. Two-ish hours later I woke up with a much clearer mind and stronger stomach then I had had yet that day. It was around 10 by this point and I had of yet no plans for the evening, I decided to try some of the bourbon as I had had enough wine for recent future. Pat joined me soon and grabbed some wine. We talked to some of the people in our room and none of them had plans beyond heading to the bar downstairs. As they went down there I finished my drink and went to join them. I ended up hanging out with my Argentinian roommate and three other Argentinians he had met at the hostel. Of the five of us two spoke just Spanish, two spoke Spanish and English (they were pretty good at it too despite their protests to the contrary) and me, who knows maybe 5 words of Spanish. It was a nice night despite the language issues. We mainly hung out and drank at the hostel bar but we did get out for pictures and food.

Early day tomorrow cause Pat and I need to pack up and check
out by 10:30 in preparation for our train to Barcelona that night.
